Although there are many more members of SVA, below are some that have specifically made themselves available in case their backgrounds and experiences align with prospective members are looking for. A biography is attached so you can see what various veterans at MIT are involved in as well as contact information in case you would like to connect. We are all here to help!

President

Omar Rutledge

Omar Rutledge is a PhD candidate in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences and a former enlisted Infantryman in the US Army. Besides having a true passion for developing effective therapies that treat mental health conditions, Omar is an avid aviation enthusiast and is currently a student pilot.

Kyle Guerre

Kyle Guerre is a transfer student from Los Angeles Pierce College studying Mechanical Engineering (Class of 2025), and a U.S. Army veteran that served in Air & Missile Defense working on the Patriot system.  When he's not studying you can find him overanalyzing the plots of movies, critiquing food, and planning out his next racecar build.

Jill Marie Rahon

Jill Rahon is a graduate student in Course 22 (Nuclear Science and Engineering) and a Major in the United States Army. She is a CH-47 helicopter pilot and taught physics at West Point before returning to MIT to finish her PhD. She enjoys renovating houses with her husband and attempting to teach her 2 year old twin daughters how to Irish stepdance.

Rich Drazin

Rich Drazin is an Executive MBA student at the Sloan School of Management.  Professionally, he is the Director of Strategy and Transformation for naviHealth, an Optum business unit within UnitedHealth Group.  Rich spent his military career in Special Forces with multiple combat deployments.  Outside of work and school, he is active in multiple non-profits dedicated to improving the lives and mental health of the veteran community. 

Additionally, Rich is an avid outdoorsman who mountain climbs, backpacks, sails, golfs, and hikes with his wife and dogs. In addition to those seeking to coordinate with the SVA, Rich invites anyone to reach out and connect at rdrazin@mit.edu.  He really enjoys meeting and talking to people and being of any assistance he can be.

Subin Kim

Subin Kim(’25) is a junior in undergraduate majoring in Course 6-4(Artificial Intelligence & Decision Making). He’s an Army veteran and is also currently an Undergraduate Ambassador for Service2School. He enjoys playing sports in his spare time, but usually inhabits study spaces working on PSETS.

Chief of Fundraising

Jake Skimmons

Jake Skimmons is a graduate student in naval architecture and marine engineering and is a lieutenant (junior grade) in the U.S. Coast Guard.  He was the damage control assistant on USCGC POLAR STAR (WAGB 10) before coming to MIT and will be a Coast Guard marine inspector after graduation.

In addition, he likes rowing on the Charles River and finds no issue with wearing a cowboy hat in the middle of Boston. Jake can be reached at JSkimm10@mit.edu
